ON SICKNESS:

I got my annual fall cold over the weekend, a terrible time to get a cold. (Note: If I get an annual fall cold, and an annual spring cold, would I refer to my colds as biannual? Hemiannual? I really don't know, so I'm sticking with annual spring and annual fall when describing my colds). I took a lot of Dayquil during the day, Nyquil at night, reasoning that rest would be the best thing for me.

I had heard the expression "Starve a cold, feed a fever" before. And actually, I thought it was "[If you] starve a cold, [you will] feed a fever." So every time I've been sick, I've kind of pigged out, reasoning that my body needs as many calories as possible to fight off these stupid germs. I have since learned that you should eat healthy and maintain your fluid level during these bouts with illness - although I maintain that because so much of it is mental, it makes sense to fill up on chocolate, peanut butter, and some combination of the two.

I think it's odd that when I'm actually sick, I do everything I can to avoid going to the doctor. I mean, what is the doctor going to do for a head cold? Tell me to go home, get rest, get fluids, etc. But on other occasions - if I have a headache after a long day, for example, I think it's the worst and start considering which brain cancer specialist I should go see.

I do, however, think the best medicine for any illness is to see the Bears win.
