ON ANXIETY:

Life offers some occasions during which the anticipation is a large part of what makes the actual event better. For example, the higher the climb on a roller coaster, the better the drop. The longer the wait for Grandma's Chicken-and-Noodles dinner, the more savory and delicious the meal is.

I would say I'm going through the opposite phenomenon today - when the lead-up is significantly more gut-churning than the actual event. It feels like the animated guy from the "Take On Me" video is slamming up against the walls of my stomach, trying to become real (and, presumably, hook up with a diner waitress).

And it's not like the event is a bad thing. Not like when, as a kid, I had the long wait "until [my] father gets home" to be punished for whatever Twinkie-based offense I had committed. That feeling would be a relief compared to what I'm going through right now.

And if you think I'm talking about the election, you really don't know me at all.

His will be done, I suppose.
