ON THE SUPER BOWL:
I don't understand how people can go without watching the Super Bowl. It doesn't register with me, how people can ignore a cultural phenomenon. You don't have to like football, or sports...the Super Bowl is one of the few times per year that people can get together and share something bigger than themselves.
Look, in this world of satellite TV, internet entertainment, and an increasingly-niche-driven print media, there aren't many things that people can truly get together and share. Gone are the days of everyone watching Carson, or MASH, or things like that. The Super Bowl is an opportunity for people to share the experience. Even if it's just for the commercials, I think people owe it to themselves to watch.
As for the game itself...after Larry Fitzgerald's catch-and-run touchdown, I screamed "He's not human!" Given time to reflect on that, I realize how stupid it sounds. Like some advanced alien race decided to create this body and use it to play sports. Human sports, not even something cool like space darts.
For a while, I thought the officiating would be the ignored story of the game by the announcers. It seemed like a replay of the most recent Pittsburgh Super Bowl appearance (against the Seahawks) where most of the calls went Pittsburgh's way. However, a few calls went for the Cardinals, and I guess it all evened out.
That having been said, I'm told Ben Roethlisberger is a jerk.

I completely disagree
It's a cultural touchstone, Jen. You owe it to yourself and to the world of popular culture to be aware of these things.
And I have secondhand testimony about Roethlisberger.
I could care less about either. I actually elected taking a work trip early this year in order to get out of sitting and watching the game.
I still think you are smart, though. =)
