I feel the need to update on the status of the Quizno's girl. We went last week and, sure enough, the same girls were working. After finishing our meal and almost being talked out of it by my friends, it went a little something like this:
ME: (to the girl's friend) Hi. We were here a few weeks ago when someone - I think it was that girl - got a phone call about her boyfriend being in jail.
GIRL'S FRIEND: Okay?
ME: Well, I was just wondering how that whole situation is going.
GIRL'S FRIEND: Oh. It's getting better. She broke up with him and she's really emotional about it.
ME: Well, I'm glad she's getting away from him. I'm against abusive relationships in general.
GIRL'S FRIEND: Yeah, me too. I went through one so I know how she's feeling.
ME: I'm sorry to hear that, but at least she's got someone to talk with.
GIRL'S FRIEND: Yeah.
Did I overstep my bounds? I'm against domestic violence, sure, but was it right for me to ask?
Conversely, should I have done more? Should I have taken along a pamphlet from the Women's Center in town? Or at least a magnet with their phone number?
Incidentally, the reason I'm so against domestic violence? The book "Rose Madder."
