ON FAME
I was at a concert this past Saturday. Some friends are in the band "Senior Discount" and were performing in a large theater-style club. They had performed the week before for a very different audience, albeit at the same location. So I thought I knew what to expect.
However, instead of standing off to the side in the faux-VIP section, I was down in front for this show. The crowd was definitely there for punk music and not for electronica/dance (as they had been the previous week). So the show definitely seemed to crackle a little bit more. The band members had been more enthused about the show and seemed to have more energy going into it...so maybe that accounted for the increased energy in the performance. In (one of) Lou Holtz's books, he talked about a team rising to the expectations set for them, and I think that was the case Saturday night.
But this isn't a blog for a member of Senior Discount. This is all about me, and what I am learning. During the song "VBW Song," the lead singer said "Only Brad holds stock with me" and pointed at me. I couldn't really hear what was going on and assumed he pointed at his girlfriend, who had been standing right in front of me. After the show, he told me what he had said and I...I felt as happy as a schoolgirl.
I enjoy rock music. I should think that would be clear by this point. And I kind of take for granted that my friends are in a band. But to actually be brought up and pointed to during a song - that's a whole different animal. It made me feel moderately famous. I mean, sure, I went out with the band after the show, but that's different. That's hanging out with friends. To be called out during a show...it's like I'm a part of something bigger than myself, which is just awesome.

The cockles of my heart are warmed at your sentiment.
But I must say - I hope you ALWAYS feel that you're part of the beast that is Senior Discount.
While still being a band, I feel like we're extremely shaped by the videos, and the people that I feel are truly involved in the project.
You, Alyssa and Casey are the people I feel are behind/with the band at this point. I wish I could say the same for Lou (and he would be, if he could be), but you guys are not only there for all the experiences, but I feel you're the people who believe in and help shape the project at every step.
I've always believed in S*D as a collaborative medium, and the people who write/execute the videos with me are just as much a part of the entire thing as the people behind the instruments.
I'm really looking to do something different, and I believe in the fact that S*D is a multi-medium experience. I want people to experience a whole world when they find out about us. I want them to know the music, the comedy, and the real, true personalities behind everything. To me, it's important that all of those aspects are there.
As a group, I feel (and I know) that we excel in all those categories, and I hope you know that you're certainly part of that collective.
