ON MIRACLES
We saved a girl's life before winter break. I realize that sounds dramatic, but it's a fact. Here's how it broke down:
It was the night of the snowstorm. Because the improv show was canceled, I was free to go sledding with my RA's. I got tired earlier than they did, and so headed home earlier. I checked Facebook when I got in and saw a troubling status message from a girl. I contacted her RD and the RD on Duty. The RDOD went to the girl's apartment and found her just before she left to go to a friend's place to get pills to kill herself that night. Because of our timely intervention, the girl ended up going to the hospital and getting some counseling-related help.
My question is - how many things have to line up in an unusual way in order for something to be considered a miracle? Let's look at the facts:
* We got her just as she was about to leave.
* We wouldn't have gotten her then if I hadn't called when I did.
* I wouldn't have called had I not come home from sledding early and checked Facebook.
* I wouldn't have been sledding/home at all when I was if we had an improv show like every Friday.
* We wouldn't have canceled the show if there hadn't been a ridiculous snowstorm.
Is that enough to be considered a miracle? Or was it the proximity to Christmas that made me see miracles where there were only coincidences? Was it the positive results that lead me to my conclusion? I've had a series of things line up that result in me catching kids smoking marijuana, but I don't know that I would have considered THAT a miracle (particularly when they were smoking it directly outside the front door of the building).
I debated for a while about posting these things for privacy reasons, but I opted to post based on the fact that for all those things to occur, the girl would realize that, based on the series of events that led to her getting help, there's probably a bigger plan for her.
