ON RESOLUTIONS:

I always start the year with the best of intentions. For example, a few years back, I resolved to have a new food every day. And it was a great resolution...except for my un-adventurous palate. To me, a "new food" meant "to try a roast beef sandwich from a different place." Then, for the month of February, I tried a new drink every day from the Walgreens cooler. By the way, tomato juice and V-8 are both just awful. That "resolution" made it through April before falling by the wayside.

In other years I've made similar resolutions, although not as roast beef sandwich-centric. And the "new year" is a great time for starting these things.

However, my goals usually start at my birthday in July. So the time of the new year - the changing of the calendar - while it may prove portentous for others, for me - not so much. Maybe I'm selfish, but my birthday is the time of the year when I make new goals for the upcoming year. Still, caught up in "resolution fever," I suppose I can offer up the following goals:

* Expand blog readership to at least five people (four plus me)
* Try coffee milk

It's going to be a breakneck pace trying to fit all that in, but I think I can handle it. Check back to see how I do, and tell your friends! Happy 2009!
